On September 10th under a bluebird sky and pumping 4-5 foot surf from Hurricane Earl spinning off the Atlantic Seaboard, the 6th Annual Rockaway Beach Body Surf Competition hosted by the RBBU was underway at the fabled east jetty at The Box in Rockaway Beach. The conditions were as flawless as you could get here on the East Coast, a scenario that never gets taken for granted, which left all of us in high spirits throughout the day.
72 competitors started at the beginning of the day, and after 4 rounds, 6 competitors were left to battle it out in the final. Michael Ferris of North Belmore, NY took home the coveted RBBU trophy this year when it was all said and done.
This is an incredible grassroots contest organized by the good folks at the Rockaway Beach Bodysurf Underground that sees guys, girls, young and old, skilled and novice, pitted against each other all in the spirit and camaraderie of everyone's shared love of the ocean and frolicking about in the surf.
There really is no other contest that we know of that quite matches up to the Rockaway Beach Bodysurf Competition, and we here at Noah could not be more stoked to support and participate in the event.
