April Drop

Waiting for the sun…

Seasons change. In some places it´s stark and immediate - you trudge through the last days of snow, sleet, rain, and then, suddenly, the sun returns and everyone shoves their winter gear away until next year. But anyone who's called the northeast home - especially in recent years - knows that things are a little different. Spring is a time of melt, hope, warmth, drizzle…

All that matters is that there´s work to be done before summer hits: boats need a new coat of bottom paint, a once-over on the lines; you check the marine VHF radio for the weather report, pray the engine turns on. Smell the earth thawing, the garden unfurling ever so slowly. One day you leave the house in a heavy coat and sweater, the other in a light jacket and umbrella, the next in shorts...

Seasons change, but the seasons have changed too. Climate change has destabilized the patterns so many of us grew up with and relied on. We all are subject to its whims. The weather channel is scrambling, predictability is lost-for some, it's too much heat in the summer, or too much hail in the spring. For millions of others, it can be life-changing: floods, wildfires, droughts...

In the Northeast, we remember heavy snowfall in March. Weirdly warm days in January, crossing to the sunny side of the street. Brisk beach mornings, chiding a loved one who, tempted by the sunlight through the window, forgot an extra layer, and shivers now. Everything teems with potential. You step inside somewhere for a coffee, and when you emerge, spring has arrived and the whole world - trees, animals, people - open up with color and song...

We´re not gonna pretend that this time of year is all sunshine and rainbows. When we went out to do a summer shoot, we found ourselves overcast in the great south bay. These clothes were meant to be worn as you live your life, wherever you find yourself, whatever the weather. There's plenty that will suit you to throw on as the days grow warmer, and there´s unique opportunities to layer up and add a bit of color to gray skies.

Life is unpredictable, but we found a way to make the best of a cloudy day. We're sure you´ll do the same.
