Substantial Italian Fabric: We love fabrics with a little heft -- ones that offer depth of hand while remaining lightweight. The Check Kangaroo's high-thread-count, 100% cotton gingham, from the Subalpino mill in Biella, Italy, is exactly that. It's got just enough body to give the jacket substance without weighing it down. This was the starting point for us, a material that made sense for summer, but would enhance the jacket's fit. Its density also means it will look like new after years of use.
Functional Features: The athletic pedigree of the hooded pullover means functionality is part of its DNA, and we haven't overlooked this. The drawstring hood and hem, metal underarm vents, adjustable snap cuffs and easy-access kangaroo pocket keep things versatile and active. But our favorite feature has to be the zippered pouch pocket. You can throw anything in there (wallet, keys, phone, etc.), zip it, and forget it. Nothing hits the sand or slips down into the car seats. Not to mention the fact that the protective chest flap adds the perfect touch of structure.
New Territory for Gingham: We're excited to have taken a traditional shirting fabric into the realm of outerwear.
